Same here. The instructions are useless. I plug it into the my ipod mini and it displays 88.1, 89.7 or 107.9.
I turn on my ipod and still nothing. I pick a song and push play and the maxell LED display goes blank?
Isn't it supposed to scan or something? If it is doing something it sure doesn't indicate it.
Here are some of the SUPPOSED features with my comments in brackets):
• Allows you to play your iPod® through any FM radio (UMMM NOT YET!)
• Scans stations for cleanest signal (IT DOESN"T GIVE ANY INDICATIONS THAT IT SCANS ANYTHING)
• Locks in up to ten of your favorite stations with memory button (CAN"T LOCK WHAT IT DOESN"T SCAN)
• No power switch - easily plugs into iPod® (THIS ONE IS TRUE BUT IT SURE LIKES TO TURN ON AND OFF WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE!)
• No batteries required (IT DOESN"T WORK SO WANTS THE DIFF?)
• High-stability crystal oscillator (I THINK THEY MADE THIS UP?)
• Phase-locked loop control (AGAIN...THEY PROBABLY MADE THIS UP TOO... IT SOUNDS COOL THOUGH, DON' IT?!)
Well I don't know! I bought it because it was cheaper but it had the Maxell name.
If any of the above sounds familiar let me know. Or I may have a defective unit. Either way I think I may return it soon! I live in the Canada and bought it at Radio Shack. I would expect an unknown brand or in house brand to be this cheap and with no support but Maxell? Looks like I won't be buying any ipod gear from them! Stick to cassettes or don't release garbage!
PS. Did you notice the INPUT jack at the side? Do you know what it is for? I'm guessing it is to shove a screwdriver in when you finally get frustrated with it....

Yep me too.
Took it back this morning for a refund. Guy at the store asked me if I used it right.
I told him it sucks what else did he need to know?
I also emailed Maxell and didn't get a response...sort of like their crappy transmitter.
Guess I'll pick up an iTrip and see it that works.

Just bought a Griffin iTrip mini. Worked right out of the box. Sounds great on 87.9 as advertised.

I have the same problem. See the other thread about the same product for details:
I wish I had seen this thread before buying THE MAXELL P-5. I had a gift card and wanted to buy an fm transmitter, so I got it from Media Play, which is going out of business so they won't accept returns!
Upon opening the packaging, i found there were no directions, which means I don't know how to program the memory function. While actually using it (or trying to) in the car, I noticed the sound quality is not just poor, but HORRIBLE. Even worse, while plugged into the device, my ipod freezes everytime I try to use any of the buttons and it skips through songs and completely shuts off. This was a terrible investment, and now I fear I'm stuck with it (although I will be paying the store a visit this weekend, demanding a refund or store credit for something else).
I have searched all over the internet to see if anyone else has had similar problems, and so far this is the first place I've found anything. Can anyone give me some more info regarding this product?

has anyone else had any problems with this system? i tried to return my defective product today, but as luck would have it the store from which i bought it has gone bankrupt and is liquidating everyhing, thus not accepting returns. they told me i have to go through maxell itself to get any money back. this is going to be a long road to redemption...
