My mmjb crashed my hard drive and screwed up my windows 2000 operating system. Blue screen horror - first time ever with any computer I ever owned. I went out and purchased a new 160GB hard drive, my father-in-law partitioned the two hard drives and loaded windows 2000 on the new one. Luckily, I was able to see my 4000+ songs on my old hard drive and they seem fine.

I heard that the newest mmjb is not compatible with the ipod and after my old version crashed my computer I am worried about using an older version (that I may be able to find somewhere on the net). This puts me in the position of having to switch to iTunes.

I need some help and advice as far as all the steps I should take (in correct order) to switch to iTunes for my 3G iPod. I guess I need to know how to go about with the switch, update my iPod, have iTunes recognize my library of mp3's. Have correct tagging, etc.....

My iPod still has the musicmatch software on it. I am thinking that I should install iTunes first on my computer and then manually put my old mmjb current playlists on iTunes . Then I assume I have to restore the iPod to factory settings ?

I need help ?????

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,
Just last week, I made the switch from MMJB to Itunes. (w/ all the imcompatibilities no regrets either - wished I hadn't waited so long!)

Anyways, here is what I did to make the switch. First I downloaded the newest version of itunes. Next, I opened my MMJB and exported the music from my MMJB library to a folder on my computer. (I chose My Music) Once I confirmed that all my music was intact in the new folder, I returned to itunes. I clicked import and a box came up. I looked for "My Music" folder and opened that up. I can't remember if a comfirmation box came up or not - but next thing I know, 1200+ songs were being magically transported to my itunes library! Some songs needed to be converted, and itunes will pop a box up asking if you want to convert - click yes. Next, i clicked ipod updater - once that was done, I deleted MMJB from my computer. (That was a scary move! The process seemed too simple to already be able to delete MMJB) After that, I attached my ipod to my computer, and again, ipod updater came up - so I redid that again. Guess what,....after that, everything was perfect. Completely flawless! I wished I would have switched a long time ago. I like MMJB - but the incompatibility issues were wearing on me! Hope this helps

Thanks Dakota,

I actually took the plunge about 5 days ago. Nobody had responded to my post so I "winged" it. Like you I had no problem making the switch as worried as I was. The only pain that I had was recreating my old playlists. I had the songs and the order of each of the playlists but I found that I had to manually recreate them again. It took around 8 hours to do. I wonder if there was an easier way. I couldn't find an answer in the forums --- and I probably don't want the answer to that question now .....ha,ha.

I think I like iTunes better than mmjb but I do have a couple of complaints

I would like to have a folder for each of the artists as opposed to seeing every song for every artist
I would like readily see what the bit rate is on each of the songs
So far my iTunes doesn't recognize that my burner is hooked up. I'm still working on that one.

And a few small complaints I can't think of right now.
I love the crossfading feature and the ease of purchasing songs.

p.s.s.

actually you can see the bit rate if you check that option - good !
