I recently had the Kenwood KDC-X789 head unit installed with the ip500 interface. I have the U2 ipod and the 30GB iPod Photo. Both worked fine. Now the iPod Photo says "OK to Disconnect" on the iPod screen instead of "Kenwood", like the U2 iPod (and correct operation dictates). The head unit flashes "load" continuously, and does not work. I brought it back to the installation center and hooked the iPod Photo up to their display unit and to the store owner's car, both had the same problem. The iPod works fine by itself, and the U2 iPod works fine when connected.
Kenwood told the stereo place that I need to install Photoshop Elements 3.0 (free 30 day version) and utilize that for my photo files, which I don't use, anyway. Then, reinstall iTunes 4.8. Somehow, Kenwood says, these two programs will comunicate with each other and fix the glitch. Then, reset setting on iPod, and connect in the car.
This did not work.
Now they tell me to do a hard reset, subsequently erasing the iPod and reistall all songs, which takes the better part of an entire day, as I have 4600 songs.
I will probably try this after posting this, however, even if it DOES work, it will just happen again, I would assume. Has anyone experienced this, and what did you do to get it back to communicate with the ip500.
PS, The iPod Photo model was the iPod of choice at the electronics expo used by Kenwood for demonstration purposes, so it IS designed to work with this model.
Thanks to anyone who can help.
