So I finally got my car and my stereo purchased, and proceeded to hook up my ipod to the car. What I started with was the Alpine CDA-9847, Alpine KCA-121B, and my ipod to make it work. I installed everything per directions, activated the AUX on the Alpine, but it doesnt quite work. The sound is really quiet (REALLY QUIET) even when the volume is turned up or I am using the dock, bypassing the headphone amp. There is also a lot of static. Is the AUX cable faulty? I hope not, just bought it off ebay, new in box. Any suggestions?

Well i have a similar setup as you except i dont have a dock i just use the headphone out to my line in of the alpine unit, When i installed mine i switched the little ai-net mode switch at the back from norm to eq and everything works fine.
The ipod is a little quiet so i use it on about 60-70% volume any more and you would probably get distortion depending on your sound setup.
You said you bought the cable on ebay, is it an official alpine cable? if not you might want to go to a local store and pickup a new cable and see if that solves the problem... just make sure to check with the stores return policy to see if you can return it...
Another solution is and alpine kca 420i adapter that will let you use your ipod as a disc changer on your unit and you will be able to switch songs with you head unit. I would have tried that but it is incompatible with my older 2003 unit. Heere is the url alpine-usa. com/products/leading_technology/leading_tech_kca-420i.htm

Well I looked uner the stereo and found the switch, but I'm not exactly sure what setting it is on and how to change it. What do I have to switch? I see a big metal wedge..thats about it :/

Yup you just flip it with something like a small screwsdriver or a pen. Well i hope that works if not you can always try another link cable.

The big metal wedge, you're sure? It's hard to move..well I couldn't move it when I tried it. Maybe I'll try it once more.

Mine is just a white switch.... hmmm didnt notice any other switches??? Maybe its on the underside of the unit... just looks like a small white rectangle that you can slide over... should have labels on it
