Okay, I'm going away on a cruise ship for 7-10 days, and would love to use my IPod Mini as much as I can within that time frame. My question is this: I don't have the AC Adapter so I can't charge it on the ship, and no PC/Laptop, so that's out of the question. So, my initial charge before I leave is pretty much it. How long do you think I can listen to my music, before I should power down, and let it rest?
I've heard it drains slowly even without use (in cold climates/hot climates/etc.) so I want to take every precaution as I can. And if I accidently let it discharge completely, I'm not completely screwed am I? As long as I don't do it continually, it should be fine, right?
Keep in mind I literally just got my iPod Mini around 1 week ago, and haven't let it get even close to low battery yet. Any help/opinions on this subject matter would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, this is my first post here. I'm glad I found this place, so many iPod addicts. And now I can finally see why, it's an incredible device. :D

Hi, and welcome to the forums! Depending on your use, the ipod has a standby time of about 2 weeks. Since it has a play time of about 18-26 hours, you'll probably be fine, although the last couple of days might be a stretch. I usually get about a weeks use before I need to recharge. Just make sure all the backlight, eq, and other features are set to "off" to ensure you get the most from your play time.

Depending on the cruise ship, they have computers for use (They of course charge and arm and a leg for internet usage), but I think they have usb ports, you may be able to bat your eyes at the person who hangs out at the area and get a 80% charge on the mini in a hour if a pinch.
Before you head on the cruise see if you can do a battery test to see how long your iPod goes continuously before the battery dies, that way you can ration your time appropriately. The trip to and from the cruise will likely be the worst as you can likely use up a lot of time just on traveling to your port!
What I did was pack my Altrec Langsing inmotions on my cruise, this way I was able to give the iPod a little charge during our week long cruise.
Enjoy! Where are your cruising too? My wife and I can't wait to go on another cruise.

Thanks a lot for your responses and the warm welcome. :)
I've been checking on that iPod Mini Battery Test FAQ, and maybe I'll give it a shot. The only problem is I would have to let the battery die completely, and I've heard that's a bad thing to do with the iPod Mini. Hmm, in any case, it looks like it's my best bet.
I have other things to keep me occupied on the cruise anyway (Nintendo DS, PSP, magazines, etc.) so I'm sure I can miss listening to my music for a few days...I hope. Besides, I wouldn't want to miss all of the scenery. :D
Oh, and by the way, it's an Alaskan Cruise, and I've heard some good things about, so needless to say, I'm pretty excited. :D

Hi new to you forum and loving it. I found your forum about 2 mos. ago and I have been on it everyday since. I hope I'm in the right forum. Just a beginner and a novice with all the new electronics out. I got my ipod mini 2nd. generation 4G Blue about 1/2 mos. ago . I just LOVE IT!!! The main problem is battery life I purchased it at Best Buy with an extended warentee. I had them test the battery and they sent it out the next day to Apple. Well 2 wks. later I said thats enought!! Went to Best Buy again and they gave me a new one. Had to take it back to. Now I'm on my third 1. Three times the charm, works great except battery life. About 5 hrs continues play. Have equalizer on and every so often I'll skip a song or 2. Called Apple about battery and they said that continues play about 4 to 5 hrs. That the 18hr or so is that your ipod can basically sit for 18 hrs. and still hold a charge. I just couldn't even speak I was furious. What up with that. I know that while your ipod sits without use it uses trickle batery life. They said even though I have extended warrentee through Best Buy I should send it directly to Apple themselves. I just don't want to let it go again. Oh, well Addicted to my ipod and loving it. Thanks for all your great help and advise. Again sorry if I'm in the wrong forum.
