Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Anyone have any experience splicing a ground loop isolator into the connection cord coming off of a neo ion?

I have a vw gti with a cd changer port in the trunk, which is pretty much the only place to plug in the neo ion (back of the stereo's not an option-connector cable is wrong). It works fine, but there's an intense buzzing thru the speakers that gets louder when I step on the gas and makes softer music almost unbearabe to listen to. The folks at Neo/Peripheral tell me that I need a ground loop isolator to get rid of the noise. I'm no electrician, and I've tried to splice the GLI (purchased at radio shack; rca ends have been clipped off) into the cord as per their instructions, but no luck getting rid of the noise. That said, their instructions are fairly vague past a certain point.

Has anyone out there done this successfully? Any advice, suggestions?

you may want to check your connections throughout the car, and "intense buzzing" could be from a loose conenction rather than a ground loop

You should be able to pick a new ground loop isolator at radio shack and it should plug right into the box - then cable. You might actually have a bad harness - did you cut it?

I've rechecked connections, so I don't thinks that's the problem...

There are no RCA plugs in the box; only one for the connector from the cd changer port to the box, and the other from the box to the ipod.

The neo people sent me these instructions:

"Ground Loop Isolator Installation:

Installing a Ground Loop Isolator in the VW trunk harness will eliminate engine noise by isolating the audio ground from the vehicle’s electrical ground.

Install the ground loop isolator near the clear 22 pin connector. If you are using a ground loop isolator with RCA’s you will need to cut the RCA ends off. On typical ground loop isolators the center conductor is the channel’s positive conductor and the outer shield is the channel’s negative conductor. With this in mind, cut the wires indicated below and connect the ground loop isolator in series with each wire.

Right ch+ is a Red wire in Pin #1
Right ch- is a Black wire in Pin #14
Left ch+ is a White wire in Pin #12
Left ch- is a Black wire in Pin #3

The negative wires are common."

On the one hand this doesn't sound terribly difficult, and I think I'm following them correctly, but so far no luck. Has anyone else encountered this specific problem (I doubt I'm the only one they've sent these instructions to).

Did you ever get this to work? I bought the PIE Aux adapter, and I'm getting this noise too. If I plug the connection into the headset jack, it sounds fine. I'm going to try one of these isolators in my Passat. I'd prefer to use the line out versus the headset.
