about MKV files.

when we move back the states, we are getting an Apple TV. my question is all my digital video downloads are in MKV format on USB pin drives. my question is does Apple TV have USB drives and if it does, can it play MKV? most of my videos are.

i was reading somewhere where Apple TV can not play MKV video files even from a USB, so i went to this site Free MKV Converter - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com and i will put the converter program on my port drive and my USB pin drive so that when i do get a mac and Apple TV, i can convert all my videos to compatable Appple format. i was really hoping that Apple TV could play. the only reason why i converted all my videos to MKV files in the first place so they would play better on the Phillips blu ray USB. but the only converter i have now can not convert MKVs back to the other format. i wish i wouldve kept the old files if i had known this was coming.
i think i still might have a few though.

Maybe the video converter you used is limited to MKV video container. There are some professional video converter such as Handbrake and Video Converter Ultimate. You can choose the one which fully support MKV format.

ok, i was reading somewhere that a macbook can only play MKV videos through a VLC player. (i use the VLC player as my default player on this HP laptop) if thats true then thats OK. since when my HP laptop does "die" ill probely be getting a macbook but i will still be sticking with the LGSmartTV. whish plays all my formats i have (MP4, MKV, MOV).
