The connector is a usb, not sure if its 2.0 or not. Its not fast, but does the job.

This is hard to tell. I don't have a 2.0 card reader. I would approximate that it takes 15-20 min to transfer that amount. One or two 2.5 mb pictures (which is what i tested it with), took about two mins. Its NOT fast.
Its about the same as a belkin card reader. When I was on vacation, I would take pictures, say 30-40 at 4mb, and leave it on the bed while I washed up. It was usually done by the time I was finished. I haven't done any real timing tests with it. The real beauty of it is that you don't need to carry your laptop with you to back up the pics. If time is an issue, I would think that there are better solutions out there, but its cheap and works.

If your camera is the bottleneck, then it wouldn't be fair to say that this device is slow. If you take the same camera and USB cable and hook it up to your computer, how long does it take compared to the iPod/camera adapter solution? |

Everything I've read online (both on this site and others) leads me to believe that the Canon PowerShot G3 is not supported by the new connector. However, I've not seen this confirmed by an actual user. Can any confirm if the G3 is able to use the camera connector?

its slower than when the camera is connected to the pc. the belkin connector has batteries, its the same speed. i believe the bottlenect is the ipod.

Connector works as advertised with my Canon Digital IXUS 500. (= US Powershot S 500)
USB 1 is slow in transfering and even slower when erasing but I can live with that. (Probably using the adapter with USB 2 camera's is much quicker ?) btw; the adapter fits with my booq podpaq014 case.

Do you have an iSkin? I wonder the iPod Camera Connector will attach over top of it...

I had to take mine out of the iskin to get the adapter on. it is fatter than and thicker than the normal adapter. How do you get the pictures off of the ipod you imported via the camera connector? I am stuck on this one

Does anyone know if the camera connector would work with a Nikon 995? The list of cameras shows the 885 which is an earlier model than the 995, I think. I will be getting a 30 gig Ipod photo next week.

So far I'm extremely dissapointed.
I purchased a 60gig iPod Photo on the day the new ones were released last month and I just got my camera connector in the mail that I ordered from Apple. I shoot with a Nikon D70 (USB 2.0). I have a 1gig high speed lexar compact flash card full of pictures I shot this week. 391 pics total. After 35 mins of transfering (it was on #280/391) the iPod froze. The battery was full when it started and it was down to about 25% after that transfer. I'm trying again even though the battery is dead and looks close to 15% now. I'm sure the battery will die before the transfer is finished. I realize 1gig is a lot of data, but it should be able to transfer close to the same speed as to my Mac. It takes about 20 minutes to transfer an entire 1 gig card with my cheap-o memory card reader. I've never tried using the camera but I will today and find out how long that takes. I'm guessing that the first transfer would have taken about 45 mins to complete. I'd be happy with 30 minutes, and content with 45 if my entire battery wasn't dead by the time it finished. I feel I paid way too much money for this setup to do such a mediocre job. I'm extremely angry that the camera connector took so long to come out. If it was released at the same time it was anounced, I could have returned the iPod & the connector. I can return the connector now, but the iPod is past it's 10 day return policy. Basically, this is only good for who shoot 100 or so pictures on their fairly low resolution camera (4megapixel or less) and only have a 512mb card or less. Anything bigger is obviously too much to realistically use. |

sorry but that doesn't make any sense. your saying you bought the iPod just for the ability to transfer pictures from your camera? the iPod is for playing music, you could have bought a lot of CF cards for the price of an iPod.

I do renig part of my previous statement though. While I am unhappy the first transfer failed, in doing so, must have drained a lot of the battery. I just finished transfering 391 photos (971mb) in under 40 mins, and somehow managed to do it on the final 25% of the battery without it dying. It looks to have 3-5% left. A little better than the last try. I still see some problems. First of all, not being able to use your camera for 40 mins is a real pain if you shoot any type of events. I'm still going to have to invest in some more cards, but I was hoping I could get away with just 1 or 2 and quickly transfer the contents during downtime. I expected 20-25mins to transfer a gig, not 40-45mins. Secondly, it doesn't seem to be able to power an external card reader. Yes, you can get a powered card reader, but if you're out and about, you can't really plug into a AC all the time. I shoot a lot of concerts for fun (I'm not a pro) so I was looking for way to clear out my cards between heats without bringing my powerbook to a shady venue with me. Lastly, I'm extremely dissapointed that the first attempt to transfer the files failed. No fun. Also, after the second transfer (the one that worked), the ipod was extremely hot. Scary. |

You can use some card readers (I believe unpowered) check out the storage forums @ dpreview.com, some guy there has a USB 2.0 card reader that transferred really fast (I want to say 13 minutes for 512 chip) Might be worth looking into, as it wouldn't tie up your camera.
