not a typo!!!

Yup, I tried both of my digital cameras, a couple years old Canon G2 4mg and a Pentax S4 4mp, both cameras are not listed and both worked flawlessly.

I know, i was surprised that they worked. You can take a picture, import it into the ipod and view the picture right away.

I work at Disney throughout the summer and during Christmas and was always worried about taking too many pictures and nowhere to store them when space ran out on my card... This is my cure!

Talking

i've used my 3rd gen ipod to store pics using the belkin card reader. I upgraded to a 60gig photo and this connector is much smaller and doesn't use any batteries.

The Apple site has a long list of compatible cameras, but TONS of older model cameras (that seem like they should work) are not listed.

The purpose of this thread was not/is not to duplicate the list that Apple published, but rather to expand on that list with our own experiences of what UNLISTED cameras ALSO work.

I have a Canon Powershot S300. It is not listed on that site, because it is no longer being produced. This does not mean that it will not work, it just means that Apple hasn't bothered to check. My intention was to have the iPodLounge community fill in those kinds of gaps in this thread.

Hope that helps to explain.
I fully agree with this.
Canon 10D is not listed anymore just because it's a discontinued product but there is not reason why it should not work.

Got mine tonight, too...it works with a Nikon D70. Not terribly fast, but acceptably fast. One piece of advice...if you are using a D70 and want to shoot RAW (.NEF files), consider shooting in NEF+Jpeg mode. (This saves a significantly compressed jpeg file in addition to the RAW file.) The iPod photo connector downloads all files in a"roll", so you'll end up with jpegs and RAW files. The slick part is that the iPod simply ignores the .NEF files in NEF+Jpeg mode...it only displays the jpeg versions of the photos.

Incidentally, the iPod photo only displays the word "RAW" on .NEF thumbnails when you are shooting in RAW mode only (no jpegs). When you select the RAW photo, it displays this message:

This photo format cannot be viewed on iPod. Transfer imported photos to your computer and synchronize through iTunes to display them on iPod.

I'm not sure if that means iTunes can handle RAW files, but my guess is not.

great news that this is out now. IMO the other solutions were next to useless. Assuming you want to transfer from your camera so you can delete photos to make more space, I woudn't trust any device unless I could see that the transfers were done properly.

This does that, and is the perfect on-the-go solution. I can see photographers buying ipod photos just for this function, and having an mp3 player as a bonus.

BTW, what happens to the photos on the PC? Does iTunes do any reverse sync, or do you just drag them off in disc mode?

Does this work with a 4G (non-photo) iPod? I know that it won't display the photos, I just want a convenient place to dump the memory card too - then synch up when I'm back from the trip.

Thanks.

2 new cameras for the list

I got mine this morning and tested it with my Pentax Optio 750z and my Canon S230, and both work fine. Slow, because both use USB1 instead of USB2. The Pentax will probably take more than an hour to offload a 512 MB card, so I have to make sure the iPod and the camera are well charged before attempting it.

I was somewhat disappointed to find out that my card reader isn't supported. It's a SanDisk imagemate 8 in 1 and is USB 2.0, so it would have been nice. I thought it was a standard mass media device, I'm not sure why the camera connector wouldn't pick it up, but oh well.

Nope. Doesn't work with non-photo iPods.

Anyone try downloading from a D100?

Anyone have any luck downloading from a D100 using the iPod connector? Is the connector a USB2 or Firwire?
