Allright Lbuddah13, I'll try to explain it. First thing I did was open up the iTrip. Then I took a 3,5 mm jack out of an old walkman. Next thing was to fit it in the iTrip. Therefore I had to remove some of the inside of the iTrip. I tried to put the 3,5 mm jack in the middle as good as possible. Then I had to make an opening, I did that with a file untill it fit. The 3,5 mm jack had to be connected to the antenna offcourse, so I soldered it. At last I just glued the whole thing back together and I put some extra on the 3,5 mm jack. That's it, the outside antenna is just a car antenna with everything still on it. This allmost tripples the range I guess, so it's worth trying. Good luck

On page 2 you can see my other hack, the one with the external antenna.
Here's something new I guess I'm the first one that did it: I bought an iJet, an RF remote for the iPod. Because the you cannot use the iTrip and the iJet together I put them together in one box. I used the cable from my wirde Apple remote to connect the iJet and the iTrip together. I ordered a box to where I put them in. (It was to small so it I had to make the chip from the iTrip a bit smaller). The iJet has a audio out. I extended that one to an audio jack that is more solid. I did the same thing with the antenna. With all the wires in the box, the box won't shut. That's why there's ducktape around it. Allways works well .Everything works perfectly, now I can leave my iPod iTripping and control it from the room across .You can see the result on the picture. |

Just tried this mod.
Works so amazingly well! I am recommending all my mates to do this too!

i did the mod last night, everything has worked fine except it no longer does the fast blink thing it used to. and for some reason the unit will randomly turn off after 20-50 second. yet the sound is 10 times better. i cant figure out whats wrong with it. every time 20-50 second into a song it shuts off. then i have to go back to the itrp stations selections screen and choose the station again. over and over
