Itrip and Static.

I just got my first itrip and im very dissapointed. I have a standard Nissan sentra factory deck and i found a station with no voice or music on it at all, all static. I tune to that station and i still get static! And since i have to keep the ipod volume at 50% i hear it more when i turn the music up.

For some reason i get almost no static when im holding it...but when my ipod is right infront of the stereo it still gets static.

Im running out of ideas for in car audio. I dont have much money and cant really afford a new deck with the aux input.

I tried removing the antenna and that worked ok...but instead of static i get a high pitched buzzing.

Am i doomed to listening to the regular radio or is there a way to get almost zero static?

Possibility #1: Have you correctly tuned the iTrip to the station you're trying to play through? You need to follow the directions in the iTrip manual to "program" your iTrip to transmit through a certain station.

Possibility #2: The station you're trying to transmit to isn't quite "dead" enough for the transmitter. Try a different station.

Possibility #3: Why are you keeping your iPod at 50% volume. Doesn't it say in the iTrip manual to set it to about 70-80%?

Possibility #4: You live in an area where there are too many radio stations for an FM transmitter to work properly. I live in Los Angeles and couldn't get it to work on any station, so I returned it. If you do return it and want a cheap alternative to play through your car, just get a cassette adapter.

I have the same problem, and I have yet to figure out how to fix it. And actually, the manual says to have the volume in the 50-70% range. I've noticed for some songs I need to adjust it to work better. It usually sounds better around the 50%. The only problem is that then you can't turn the actual car volume up very much. Also, does anyone have a problem with the battery life? The iTrip seems to suck the life out of my iPod battery!

Not to sound mean or like a broken record but you get what you pay for. FM modulators are nothing but a headache. I suggest returning it and getting a direct connect adapter like the neo ion www.mp3youcar.com I have had both and the neo ion works and sounds 100x better then the iTrip.

The iTrip is not an FM modulator . . . it's an FM transmitter. They are very different.

How are they different? I could try to explain how I think they are the same but what‘s the point. Bottom line is I have yet to hear or see either one with the same quality as a direct connecting adapter. Anything that is wireless - even cell phones that are way more advanced then any of this stuff have single loss and static on occasion.

That is the difference: FM modulators are not wireless.

These are FM modulators:

They are very different from FM transmitters.

This may sound bizarre, but it's the car. I have a 2001 sentra and I get the same static with my iTrip. I decided to buy a heaunit from a 2004 sentra that has the aux in. I'm sure it'll work better.

It might not be the car I tried to get the itrip to work right in 4 cars each with a diiferent head unit. I couldn not get it to work know matter how much I played with it.

I'm disappointed in my iTrip in the car too. I use it a lot at work, where I lay the iPod on my boom box, right next to the antenna and it really works well. But in the car it really sounds like crap. It's not even static, it's just a flat, unappealing sound to the music. I don't use it in the car anymore.
