I just got my new Shure e3c set and I'm having the lack of bass problem. It's not tinny, it's just not there at all.
I've tried inserting them in several ways and I think I'm getting the acoustic seal (I can't hear the outside and I can feel the squieesh when I pull them out).
However, when I push them in too much I get no sound at all.
What might I still be doing wrong? Positioning?
I noticed the body part seems to stick out of my ear more than in the pictures. I'm not sure it that's just my ear structure or if that's part of the problem.
Should I try a smaller or larger sleeve?
Any page on how to put these in properly (that sounds stupid, but hey)?
It'd be too bad if I can't figure out these $150 things
Thanks,
Harold

Exercise Earphones

I am reading comments about earphones looking for my best solution. I purchased Sony EX71, tried every earbud, every suggestion - I just could not get it to seat and no base. The original mini Ipod earphones are better than what I am able to get out of this model. Read about Shure E3's and Etymotic ER4P, don't know whether they will fit my needs. I wear the mini Ipod when running. I wonder if there is a better traditional (non-isolating model) that offers a good sound. I ran last night with the Sony's for the 3rd time and I am not sure if I like the feeling of an inserted plug when exercising. Hey, all I want is a little more base than what the Sony can offer and a more secure feeling than the included mimi Ipod shipped with... THX

Have you seen the info on Shure's site?

Andy-what about the Shure and E3 and the wires running down your back when running? I wonder if that's a good idea. Also, one feature for exercising and the Sony EX71, one length of the cord is shortener so there is little excess wire when exercising - I think that's a feature for my needs. Any other models do that?

I posted this in another thread, but I think it bears repeating...

I have found that my Etymotics ER-4Ps sound better when using the foam inserts. Yeah, I was inserting the rubber tips properly, and getting a good enough seal to pull an uncomfortable vacuum when I tugged on them, but something wasn't quite right. So those using plugs with a foam option should try that if they aren't satisfied with the bass response they're getting.

Foam tips do get dirty though, and can harbor bacteria. To address that:

<quoted from my post in another thread... I also happen to be a prodigious earwax producer, so I have had to work to keep my ears clean for most of my life. Years ago I noticed that the active ingredient in Murine-type ear cleaners is carbomide perioxide. A couple of logical leaps... it foams... hydrogen peroxide foams... I checked with my doctor to make sure it was okay... and I've been using regular hydrogen peroxide to clean my ears for years now. How convenient that it also kills germs and bacteria!

My procedure is to simply lay on a bed or couch with my head turned to the side. Pour a few drops worth of peroxide into the container's lid, then drip into the ear. Let it foam (you'll hear it and feel it tickle) for awhile and then place a tissue against the ear and turn or sit up to let the peroxide run out. Lay on your other side and repeat for the other ear.

This should also have the happy effect of reducing buildup on the foamies. >

I really have no idea if I have the sony ex71's in properly... I have tried the medium and small ear bits and they both seem to be the same.. I wouldn't say I am getting no bass, its just not that amazing, similar to my apple stocks. Also, the sound doesn't blow me away, nor the isolation... Am I doing something wrong??
Cheers

I've been traveling and just getting to the email from weeks past. If you haven't figured this out yet, try the largest ones. I read where someone suggested going smaller - I do not agree, go to the larger size.

BTW - anyone tried any other insert or earpiece (like the foam ones from Shure) with the Sony EX71. I'm just thinking about replacement and wondering if their is a common element to these earbuds. Does that make sense?

I agree with secret donkey as far as the foamies rendering a much better sound for the ER4P. I think you will find a lot of people that think the same way. This guy says the same under "Silence is Golden": http://www.earphonesolutions.com/coandfith.html

Hydrogen Peroxide has bleaching qualities! Are you sure that's what you're using? Don't your ears at least ich like mad after you use that in your ears?

Apple In-ear headphones

Just bought the Apple In-ear headphones and fitted them according to the first post.. They sound great! I am used to having my more conspicuous Sony MDR-V300s and I must say that the In-Ear headphones compare well with the Sony headphones. 40 euros well spent I'd say!

As with noise suppression earplugs, you have to open up the ear canal by pulling upwards and outwards on the fleshy outer part of your ear (the Scapha).
The easiest way is to reach over the top of your head with your opposite hand, gripping your outer ear just above the mid-point, and pull upwards and outwards while inserting the earplug into your ear.

MadPict, thanks this tip is great. my shure ec2s now seem to work very well.

follow this persons advice everyone
