i'm sure this is a very repetitive question but my eyes grow weary from searching so much (still a noob to forums of any kind). The ex51s and the ex71s are virtually the same are they not? The prices for ex51s are by far better than ex71s, so why purchase the 71s?

It's pretty much a cosmetic decision. They sound the same, but the 71's have that little bit of silver on the buds. The 71's also have the extension cord design, while the 51's have the regular cord.

61's and e3c's (your previous post) are, I think, comparable when you are talking about the difference between one of those earphones and the 51/71's. The advise is pretty much the same. I think the e3c's have a bit of a warmer sound than the 6i's, based on other people's reviews. I've never owned the Shures but I've owned the EX51's and the ER-6i's.

Ok. Fewmore annoying questions and that'll be it for a little while . I have decided my final decision will be between the 51s and the 71s. I've read that the ex71 has a shorter length and the ex51 has a standard length. I went to sonystyle.com to check the lengths and it states that they are the same. Basically, i have a remote for my iPod and i dont want the wires to be too long that it drops down to my knee caps. Which one would be the shortest equiped with my remote? and whats this jibber jabber about neck chain, dont they both have neck chains?

the 71sl has a detachable extenstion cord, so try to go with that. Also 71sl is available in white (for some people this is the selling point of the 71sl) to match your ipod remote control cord. Personally, I think for the average user, the 71sl is a great headphone to start out with. Later on if you decide to upgrade, you can always get the Shure, maybe even Ultimate Ears Ec or 10 Pro. Electronics will only get better and cheaper with time =)

Does anyone know if there is any stores that sell the Shure E2c's for less than $70 USD, but ship to Canada?

Storm when I was looking, I couldn't find any. Even Amazon.com, which normally does ship to Canada, wouldn't ship these to Canada. I think there is an issue with electronic goods, and the border (might be a warranty thing?). I ended up having to ship them to my Mom, who moved to the USA, and I'm just going to pick them up the next time I see her. You might have luck on eBay. Good luck though.

Just an update - they've dropped them a tad to $134.99 and still no shipping for anyone who's interested. Not sure if they're an authorized Shure dealer, but I've had good experience on plenty of other items from them before.

as of now, ecost has mdr ex71's in white in stock for 32.99 with free shipping:

http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/detail.asp?dpno=176770

it's easily the best deal out there for white but they always have very limited quantities so you may have to act fast

Dues macmall.com you have to put them in your cart to see the deal. EarphoneSolutions.com will make the price 125$ with 2 year warranty with the code: e124e3c
