Whats your OS? USB 2.0 doesnt always work on Win 98/se or ME unless its a clean install (after the USB 2.0 installation), the connector will work but it will only go as fast as USB 1.1.
It has something to do with the high speed USB controller conflicting with the default settings of some Windows system components. If you are using another OS make sure you have the latest drivers for both the card and the OS. HTH!

ah.....25 min for 5 GB sounds about right, but I'm not really shure. That's a lot of music, and not too very long. It would take me hours and hours to put 5GB of music onto my NJB (USB 1.1)...

Hmm... Drew is right, I didnt notice that.
5GB in 25 min is definitely not USB 1.1 speed. Even if it transfered at a full 12Mbit/s (the maximum for USB 1.1) it would take around an hour to transfer 5GB of data. But then again it isnt as fast as it should be either. I honestly haven't timed how long it takes to transfer songs via USB 2.0 but I definitely get better than 5GB in 25 minutes with my laptop.

are u sure because usb 2.0 = 480 Mbps = about a half a gig right which would equal well less than 30 seconds to transfer all 5 gigs?

The 12Mbit/sec I posted is for USB 1.1. Yup USB 2.0 can theoretically hit 480Mbit/sec. But I dont know anyone who has ever hit that speed.
I just timed the transfer (via USB) of 537MB of songs to my iPod and completed the transfer in 40.2 seconds. That would be around 6.2 minutes for 5GB. I'm using a Toshiba laptop with a 2.0Ghz P4-M, 512MB ram. Last edited by empty; 10-22-2004 at 08:18 AM. |

If you can transfer at the maximum speed of the USB 2.0 bus, then it should take about a min and 25sec to transfer 5 GB (actually longer, cause i used 5gb as 5 million bytes, but it's not.)
You're NEVER gonna be able to sustan the bus maximum. Never ever. So that sounds about right. -Drew
