all my earphones get a short in months!

I use my ipod at work which involves quite a bit of bending over. I keep my ipod in my pocket with the cord of the earphones pointing up to reduce the wear on the plug, but they all seem to develop a short at the base of the plug. Every brand I've tried has shorted out. Does anyone have any suggestions for either a set of phones that are made to withstand a lot of wear and tear or a way to protect the cords to prevent the shorts?

Thanks!

I don't know if you can wear anything so obvious at work, but I got these recently at Amazon, and they are sturdy and great sounding, as well as very comfortable: Amazon.com: Philips O'Neill SHO9560/28 Over-Ear Headphones - Black Bordeaux: Electronics

Sounds like you are pretty rough on your ear buds.....you can wrap the wire at the plug with a piece of electric tape to add some strain relief but it may just lengthen the spot were the wire opens up. You may want to find a armband holder.

What iPod? A latest generation iPod touch has Bluetooth, no wires.

I may suggest getting a pair of earphones that features a detachable cable such as this one:
