Stylus-R-Us stylus: has anyone actually tried one?

Lately I'v read a lot about the Stylus-R-Us stylus, most reactions/comments being positive. However, most reviews/comments (there are a few on this forum) seem to be posted by the manufacturer itself... Is there anyone here who has actually tried the stylus?

The whole thing, especially the youtube videos, kinda seem to be too good to be true, the website looks horrible, the styluses look as if someone ripped the guts out of a standard pen... Still, I would really like a stylus with that accuracy, so I'm hoping someone has tried it.

My first instinct has always been if it's too good to be true, then you're probably better off looking elsewhere.

Stylus-R-Us

Took the plunge:
yes, some of the holders themselves are just cheaply made pens, but they look better than most stylii;
the tips, tho are superb - such a light touch makes accuracy much easier, tho it is a bit counter-intuitive at first.
Even if you press too hard, making the felt tip flat & less responsive, it's easily fixed by fluffing out the felt (toothbrush, or even Velcro "teeth").
Just don't crew around with the holder (like twisting or separating the ones made from Cross style pen holders)...

I also noticed the things you mention in this post, and was kind enough to give StylusRUs the benefit of the doubt. I sent them an email, and got a quick reply from who I'm pretty sure is the owner of the StylusRUs, considering I have read many rude comments from him. I gave him constructive criticism on how he could make his product more well known, if it really was as great as he claims. I think that he is a scammer, and he made my decision to not do business with him very easy. I actually registered just to warn you.

I have done plenty of research on capacitive styli. I have come to the conclusion that there are a few brands that work quite well, which you can find plenty of reviews on. Not to mention, I have found a few items around my house that work well. I found the StylusRUs stylus interesting, but I couldn't find any credible reviews of it. I thought the company would put some effort into trying to get me to purchase their product, but instead the owner made it clear why nobody should even try to buy their products. He seems to have no confidence in his product. Well I'll let him speak for himself, here are a few messages we exchanged:

My message to StylusRUs:
"First of all, I don't like this sexist remark you make on your website, "so if you’re female and prefer light things to hold – the 12” aluminum iWand may be better for you. " I also don't think it's wise that you comment to people, including your customers, as if they are ignorant. I was unable find any reviews of your product that aren't already on your website, or just someone saying to try your product. And the only YouTube videos look like they were all made by your company. If your product is as great as you claim it to be, I'm sure there would be good reviewers eager to make a review for you.

There are other styli that work well, are lower maintenance than yours, and are less expensive. Griffin, Targus, and BoxWave have numerous positive reviews. As before mentioned there aren't enough or maybe even any credible reviews on your product. All of these have a tip that doesn't need to be "revived". You make such a big deal about how your product requires so little pressure. Have you ever thought that maybe some people try to use too much pressure with these also? They're made for a capacitive touch screen, so they obviously don't need a lot of pressure for any of them, they only need to come in contact with the screen. All of the styli I have mentioned can be purchased for cheaper than yours. I'd also like to point out the new HardCandy stylus, which is more expensive than some of your models, but is also more stylish and has a pen tip. Your special stylus tip looks similar to the Pogo's, which is known for not working well.

Even after all of my criticism, which I think should help you more than anything, I wouldn't mind supporting a small company as long as there products are truly quality and unique. Would you like for me to make you a list of people that do some of the best product reviews for ipad accessories? If they give your stylus a positive review, I will purchase your product and I'm sure many other people will as a result.

Lauren"

There reply:
"I surrrr hope you've got time to sit there in expectation of my long email to counter your first one because young lady....ouuuuu do you have one coming - well warranted. Regarding my quick replies - we have the BEST customer service in the world - whether you can accept that or not. No more emails until you get my next one which will be in about 30 to 45 minutes."

There next reply:
"I've decided (after already spending 15 minutes countering several of your lines) - to let this go. You'd only be steaming if you saw my rebuttal - because everything you wrote was either not true - wrong - misunderstood - confused - or in some other way - preposterous. I think it much better - based on all of your improper information and sad way of thinking and judgmental ways (having no idea what you are talking about) that you deal with PoGo or any other company but us. In fact - If I see an order from you - I will immediately click your money back to you.

This one paragraph of yours however - I just can't leave untouched. You wrote...

Even after all of my criticism, which I think should help you more than anything, I

Your first line of..."Even after all of my criticism..." that translates to - Don't take all this too hard: its only meant to help you (us). Ohhh pleaseee. Yeahhh I'll just blow off your email and let's be friends. NOT!

Then your line of.." wouldn't mind supporting a small company as long as there products are truly quality and unique. Would you like for me to make you a list of people that do some of the best product reviews for ipad accessories? If they give your stylus a positive review, I will purchase your product and I'm sure many other people will as a result.

Really. What planet are you from anyway? You actually think I'm going to do all of that - for you - or anyone? We have more incredibly great reviews world wide - than you have hair on your head - yet because you can't find them - you're living with the delusion I'm going to do jump and send free styluses to all of your suggested places - so they can dissect them? Lauren? Ahhhh....you really need to stick with PoGo and Boxwave and all the others - because the only way you will ever get one of ours - is if you have a friend buy one. And I say what I mean and mean what I say. No one sends me an email like yours - and gets to have one of our styluses. And all of the reviews on my second page of the web site at the bottom: Does it look like I wrote those? Those were CUSTOMERS who had the right - unlike you - to talk of our product - as they have one and KNOW of it. You know nothing!!!!!!!!!

Your exactly like the female on one of the forum sites (and may even be her) who wrote..."So I bought two styluses from Stylus-R-Us, one for my iPhone and one for my iPad... iwand and Camry I had issues with them. They work well IF you use it per their instructions.

Duhhhhhhhhhhh...and your problem is with following instructions is??????????? You appear to have the same problem as her. As you have a problem with reviving - not understanding that the ONLY reason you have to revive - is WHEN YOU MISUSE our stylus - by NOT using it lightly; by pounding it! Hey? If you want to pound - GET A POGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you use our stylus as the instructions say - there is no reviving - as this other customer stated..."the latest one I received it today - 3 Camry , Velcro and buttons (you posted it on 23 NOV) yup the Velcro works but seriously to date I don't really need to revive any stylus yet as they are working fine.
Anyway...enough explaining. I need emails like yours - like I need money? Please do us both a favor and forget you ever heard of us. Please! I've also blocked your email address so it will go directly into my junk mail folder where it then gets shredded - so I never even see them. You've not only missed the boat - you've missed the pier as well. "

thanks a lot Lauren6

I came across with this forum looking for the same answers about stylus r us. I was actually really close and almost purchased one of those. this guy has helped me and I made my decision. even if they sell what they say they do, his attitude is not the one I expect from a company representative I usually trust so I'm going to pass. I'll keep my griffin stylus, so many red lights around them.

I stumble into this post by accident while I was looking for information on the iHealth Blood Pressure Dock.
I actually registered here, Lauren, just to let you know that I’m an actual Stylus-R-us Customer. Not like you, who has never even tried one of their styluses and therefore, has no valid reason or right to comment.
After reading all the replies about this topic, I have a couple thoughts that I want to share with you and with the rest of the people. First, it’s very difficult, in the business industry today, to find a direct contact with a company. If you don’t get a little window, were you have to write what you need and then you have to wait 2,3 or more days for them to write you back one or two lines. Maybe you are lucky and you get your answer; sometimes you’re left with a bad taste in your mouth, and you say: What did I accomplish? If you are able to get a phone number, you have to go through a painful automatic phone system, that doesn’t give you an option for a live person. My experience with Stylus-R-Us : Fast, professional and accurate response of what I needed. Have you gotten in contact with your beloved Griffin, Targus, Box Wave and Hard Candy owners? I don’t think so! I would love to see their reaction if you’d sent them the extracts of the email you sent to Stylus-R-Us. What I understood from your post, you were demanding they send free styluses to reviewers of your choice. By any chance, friends? And then if you like the reviews, you were going to do them a favor buying one. Who will go through all that trouble to sell one stylus? No, Lauren. Are you for real? What company is going to do that? Your beloved stylus company owners would have blown you off, too. I bought 2 stylus from Stylus-R-Us and they weren’t subjected to your alleged wanna help attitude. Posting this reply, shows it wasn’t never on your mind to help. What kind of a person will write something like you did, having never purchase their product or knowing nothing about the company. A person that wants to help others, as you claim in your email, you wanted to do, doesn’t do this kind of thing. You are obviously very vindictive and immature. You are trying to ruin the reputation of a company. The administrators of these blogs and forums sites delete this kind of comments because they don’t want to be sued by any company. Libel is a false, malicious statement published in mainstream media (i.e. on the internet, in a magazine, etc.).
Well, what interest me the most, is to let everybody know, that I DO have two Stylus-R-Us styluses. They work excellent. The Aluminum Roger iWand, 9” long is great when I’m using my iPad. The second one I have is the Light Touch which is a thin stylus perfect for my iPhone and iTouch.
The tip: Amazing. Completely different from Pogo (How can you say, Lauren, that Stylus-R-Us tip is similar if you haven’t had one in your hands?)
Anyway, if you want a real nice stylus, that does work, excellent for note taking, drawing, fast typing give Stylus-R-Us a chance, like I did. If you are afraid of buying because of what Lauren wrote, just have this in mind: The only way they accept payments is through PayPay. As many of you may know, you don’t get to be a PayPal seller until they verify all your information, bank accounts, etc. You have PayPal protection, as well as a Dispute Center, if by any chance you have a problem. Where’s the scam? It states in their website that if you don’t like the product, you can return it within 30 days and you get your money back. That’s plenty of time to decide if you like it or not, right? The company has the best Customer Service I have experienced lately.
I work as a secretary for an attorney and your slanderous remarks require legal action.

Hey Lauren!
They are a really nasty lot in that company !! I read your post with amazement ! Then I recieved my email from them. I can certainly see where your coming from now!
Below is my dealings with them.

Hi

I just received my Stylus R Us New Jersey Stylus Pen. No complaints about postage time, USA to Australia.

At first it didn't work, I was well informed of how to use it as I had read everything about the ' extremely light touch' etc technique before I purchased it. I can assure you that I spent a lot of time on their website reading, watched the videos, and choosing the appropriate stylus for me. After trying for about 10 mins on my iPad and iPhone , I decided to rejuvenate it ( as instructions) on the tiny piece of velcro they supply. It now works..... 3 hours later, I have 'rejuvenated' it 3 times just to keep it working!! YES ! I have been following instructions.... I'm now back to using my other stylus pen I purchased from Ebay, I actually got 2 of them for $4. Even though you need to press with this stylus, I find it much more user friendly. I can leave it in the bottom of handbag pull it out and it works beautifully ! no need to worry if it gets dirty .In summary, sure the Stylus R Us pen works, if you don't mind carrying the little velcro strip to rejuvenate it all the time...... buy one !, but $45 (incl. postage) compared to $4, well, it speaks for itself eh!

Curious as to why there is no protective cap or similar supplied to cover the tip when not in use.

Would I purchase again ??? NOPE!

I hope someone benefits from reading my review! Thanks

THEIR REPLY EMAIL:

It’s really nice Katherine you strike first (review) without requesting assistance. We really appreciate that.

There is no question however who is wrong. On occasion – we sell to locate area customers in which we get THE PLEASURE – in meeting with – to SHOW FIRST HAND – exactly how lightly you have to use our stylus. This is such a blessing for us because we know this is one customer who is NOT going to use it wrongly like you have positively done. Each stylus is tested by myself prior to mailing and we know they work 100 hits out of 100 hits. So there is no doubt – contrary to what you think you’re doing correctly – you are not. You need to understand what NO PRESSURE means. You also need to watch that FIRST video on page one of our site again to watch how the stylus is held in one OPENED (NOT CLOSED) hand - PROVING there is no pressure. You have used pressure and as it tells you in the instructions – IT WILL STOP WORKING. Kindly send it back for a full refund and you need to stick with your HAVING-NO-CHOICE-BUT-TO-JAB-THE-STYLUS-ON-THE-SCREEN-STYLUS. Also be advised you are the ONLY one out of thousands of customers who has had this issue so I’m sure it’s NOT our stylus. The instructions are emphatic. Follow them or else. We guarantee - that if you don’t follow the instructions – ours will be THE worse you have even tried. “I have 'rejuvenated' it 3 times just to keep it working!!”

That is because you are using pressure. Do you actually think this would be the GLOBAL success it is – if it worked as you depict??

MY REPLY TO THAT:
Wow !

Seems to me that contrary to your reply that I am …….
the ONLY one out of thousands of customers who has had this issue so I’m sure it’s NOT our stylus.
This is such a blessing for us because we know this is one customer who is NOT going to use it wrongly like you have positively done.

Read my review again with the other eye open!
Your Stylus Pen does work, but I have an issue with having to rejuvenate it after using for awhile. If, as you stated, I was using it with pressure, it would have never worked. I will assure you again that I was using extremely no pressure. Such tiny fibers will flatten quiet readily with use.
Obviously, reading your reply email, you have had to defend your product quiet vigorously to many other unsatisfied customers !

Below is the tail end of another reply email I found from your company posted on a review site.

What a nasty lot you are !! I suggest you attend some customer service classes ! I will certainly be sending my Stylus Pen back to you for a full refund.

Oh, by the way, my review has not been posted yet, but you can be assured it will be now.

Thumbs down Stylus R Us. NASTY

Thanks Lauren, I too have had the same emails from this company.
Read on, These are the sent and reply emails.

Haha!
You are the most nasty company I have ever dealt with !
I’m blown away with the way you treat your customers, you must have a really unhappy life!
Intelligent people can respond to constructive criticism without having to treat customers like imbeciles.
I’m sure you will still receive orders for your product, but hey, maybe you should think about the one’s that won’t order after reading your vile reply emails.
Your exactly right when you say what goes around , comes around.
And God’s on your side??? Phew! You better hope so !

Please advise how my payment will be refunded upon return of your product.

Yaknow what. Believe this or not – even bad reviews bring us business. I had three customers over the past year tell me they read a review (all saying - the AGAIN female - sounded like a moron) – and because they gave the web site URL – they checked it out - out of curiosity and all three bought. Like I said before. Appreciate the assistance. ;-)

As far as me having had to defend in the past – I always do because if anyone can’t work this stylus – ahhhhhhhhhh….please. It’s child’s play. It’s all summed up in our mottos. THE LIGHTER YOU TOUCH – THE BETTER THEY WORK., OR – DON’T TAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just touch. It‘s really simple Katherine. Why exactly - do you think these two post from customers on my first page – wrote what they did? Why do you think people would do that anyway. I mean – get a grasp on things. You’re the only one who can’t work this thing. Just touch the screen and it activates.

As far as having to KEEP reviving – that’s WHAT HAPPENS UNTIL….UNTIL….UNTIL…UNTIL you learn how light to use it. After you do –
Good buy Velcro. Hey? If you’re happy with HAVING TO jab and stab the screen – by all means – party down. You have no idea (because you didn’t learn right) what you are missing. Do what you have to do. What goes around – POSITIVELY comes around and with God on our side – hey…;-)

Thanks

Let be begin by saying, I'm a dentist in New England, and have no affiliation with Stylusrus, other than to have purchased 4 of their stylus, each one separately, because they are so far beyond awesome it's pathetic. Let me also say, I'm female so I know how vindictive females can be and these two above, need all their teeth yanked out, without any type of pain killer for what they've said about this company. Obviously, the gentleman running the company feels a passion for his product and rightfully so. They seriously do make all of the other stylus for touch screens look embarrassing. What floors me is, these two lovelies, are attacking the person in the company, rather than focusing on the stylus itself. The hell with the operator or staff there. You never went there in the beginning to fall in love with their staff. You went there to buy. And it is because you couldn't use the light touch as is well warned it operates best by, that you developed such a sickening attitude. But then, what choice did YOU have, having not followed the instructions to the letter, which, in itself, are as they post on their site. The lighter you touch the screen, the easier they work. It is due to these two lovely ladies not being able to follow those instructions, that has caused them to use the stylus improperly, and, like anything we use wrong, we pay the price.
They wouldn't know a great stylus if they tripped over one. The stylus tip that company makes, is the most incredible thing I have ever seen in my life for touch screens. Of course, you do have to follow the instructions, which these two critics seem to have a problem with. But, what neither of these ladies tell of, the Velcro is only there, while you learn how light you can use the tip. Once you have learned that, you can chuck the Velcro out the window. Everything they both wrote, is laughable and assaultive towards a company who has always treated me with respect and excellent customer service. I just added to my collection their BIG SCREEN stylus and it requires no reviving at all and only weighs like an ounce. What a winner that one is.
It would be my strong advice to anyone intimidated or turned away from that company, by what these two ladies wrote, to pay them no attention whatsoever as if you allow what they said, prevent you from buying from that company, you're going to miss out on a product like nothing else I have ever seen as far as doing as they claim it will do. They all work exactly like their videos. Great product and a fabulous company.

Agree, agree, agree. I have been using my stylus for a week now and I am EXTREMELY happy with it, and with the interaction with the company I have had too. They have STELLAR customer service answering questions the SAME DAY, like a real person who cares about their product would do. I am even more stoked to find a stylus that actually writes beautifully and easily and soooo smooth. It is a great product and a fabulous company!

You can tell a lot about...

...a customer by the way they communicate.

While the responses from the company may seems a little rude, they're simply a response engendered by the tone set by the customer. Perhaps the vendor pushes back, but I'm actually encouraged by the refreshing change from the tiresome (and faulty) mantra of "the customer is always right."

I love it when a seller has the integrity to say "Here's your money, there's the door -- use it now, and nevermore." (Hehehe. Yeah, I just made that up - feel free to recycle it...)

Oh - I've never owned (or used) any of the Stylus-r-us products, but I'll probably buy one, now. Thanks!

Smile

I must say you are very harsh and seem to be slamming the company without seeing their side at all. I bought a few different stylus / pen combinations previously and was aprehensive to try the one from stylus R us becuase I had been dissapointed so many times before and it was more expensive than the others, eventually I bought one and it was great and we'll worth the money. I found it got a little sluggish and then I remembered they sent a small piece of velcro to revive it. I followed their instructions and like magic, good as new. Since then I have only revived it once or twice and each time, like magic. I am now ordering two more, one for myself and one for my wife who before refused to even try a stylus but once she did - loved it. The only question is which one, she is overwhelmed by the choice and wants me to choose pressure!

Will update when it arrives but must say, they have been super fast and polite on email so far.

Questionable 'reviews'

I'm posting here for the sake of anyone searching this thread in the future. I was looking for a stylus for my iphone & came across a 'review' on amazon for this stylus. A quick google search brought up this site & several others that talk about the stylus-r-us. Most of them show the same pattern. I'll leave it to you to make any conclusions.

One thing that I despise is when a company spams message boards with fake posts disguised as honest reviews from satisfied customers. If you look over this thread. all of the glowing reviews are from people with less than 10 posts in total. It's super easy to set up fake accounts on any review site & rave about how great a product is. FWIW, I would only take good (or bad) reviews from a poster that has more than 100 posts total. Same thing on amazon, click on the reviewer's stats to make sure they are active reviewers, reviewing a variety of products.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if a brand new user with 1 post comes on to berate my post (as has happened with the other negative reviews so far), but so be it.

Stylus-r-us customer service

Hey all, I've been in the market for a good stylus, and after looking through reviews and info, emailed stylus-r-us to see if they sell replacement tips for their styli if one breaks and what their most affordable stylus was. (Questions I've asked for every stylus that I've looked at, btw, unless the info was clearly stated to begin with) Instead of a polite email with a link to a product page or a "sorry, we don't carry replacement tips" I got a letter from their lawyer! Apparently, asking questions about their products warrants a letter accusing me of trying to deconstruct and reproduce their product, complete with red text and underlines to point out how very naughty my nefarious plans are! Anyway, with no intentions of reverse engineering anything, i'm happily taking my money to another manufacturer. I can't comment at all about the product itself, for all I know, it might be awesome, I didn't buy it, preferring a company with decent customer service. Just thought I'd share that interesting experience!!

Very dissapointed with my Stylus-R-Us

I bought one of the capped ones last August. It was fairly expensive compared to other brands but thier advertisement about thier tip sold me on one. Think it was around 50 dollars with shipping. The constructions is good. However, it does not work at all. I figured it was because I use a screen protector so I was like, Oh well! Tried the iFariday standard stylus for less then 20 dollars inluding shipping and it works with screen protector on. I originally bought the Stylus-R-Us for an iPod Touch. Tried it with several different screen protectors and it would never registyer anything no matter how lightly or hard I touched the screen. Put it away and never used it.

I'm writing this review now because I just gave it to my friend who just got the iPad 3. I have to actually push down super hard with the Stylus-R-Us to get it to register at all. It registers only stlightly probably about 5% of the time after pushing down extremely hard. The iPad aslo has a screen protector on it.

It's probably the screen protectors causing the Stylus-R-Us not to work. That would be my guess. But the iFariday standard cheapy works even with the screen protector.

I also tried a rubber tipped stylus from Best Buy before getting the iFariday. I think it cost like $30. The rubber tip was horrible. It did not register very well and did not feel smooth when dragging across the screen.

One other thing to mention about Stylus-R-Us is they constently have this disclaimers about how to use it, on thier website, in the instructions that come with it. They make you feel like the thing is extremely delicate and if doesn't work it is because you are an idiot. Also they claim screen protectors are a waist, totally unneccesary and a marketing scheme.

On the other hand, the iFariday claims thier tip is strong enough to use it to click on the menu button on ipads and ipods. Also give directions on how to clean it if neccessary. So you don't feel like the thing is this delicate fragile thing that if it doesn't work it's user error. They also say it is more responsive without a screen protector but use them themselves.

So my experience with Stylus-R-Us was disappointing. But again, this may be because I choose to use a screen protector.
