Whats stereos (head units) allow direct iPhone control over iPod app using the iPhone’s touchscreen instead of the stereos controls.
I have an iPhone 4 and Kenwood KDC-BT838U. I hate the Kenwood’s control of the iPhone it is a horrible and dangerous design. Lots of push and hold scrolling and a 5-way knob on the FAR side of the head unit. It is like strapping a click wheel onto an iPhone, very backwards. The bluetooth speaker phone is the only thing I really like about this head unit. Very aggravating that can I control retain control of the iPod functions on all of my iHome devices but not any car stereos that I’ve tested. What head units are out there that let you retain control of the iPod functions on the iPhone instead of the dreaded 'Accessory Connected’ display? Last edited by looter; 07-15-2010 at 04:10 PM. |

The kenwood stereo I have KDC-MP345U allows you to use the iPod controls... most do as far as I can tell, but it is not working for my older 5th gen ipod
However, on more recent ipods I have noticed it works fine.

Fusion make the CAIP500, which also works with all the iPhones up to the iPhone 4 (not to say it doesn't work with the iPhone 4, I just haven't heard any news either way), but it's configuration doesn't sound that diferent to the Kenwood You're discribing.
The difference is that the Fusion unit will actually load Your iPod in the same way You used to load a cassette, into a dock hidden behind the faceplate. |

I have a Sony CDX-GT540UI, which can be toggled (press+hold one fascia button) between iPod control from the head unit, or from the iPhone itself. I use an iPhone 3GS. It also fades out music when you receive a call, and so on.
The only issue is that the usb socket is on the fascia, rather than behind the head unit. |
