Any help? I just updated to iOS 4.0 and my Alpine iDa-x305 deck no longer works with the phone. Is there a workaround? Can the Bluetooth accessory help me out? Or am I just screwed?
UPDATE: After restarting the iPhone, all is working as normal again! Thanks for everyones help. Last edited by DanDigital; 06-22-2010 at 12:13 AM. Reason: False alarm! |

I'm not surprised ... when OS 3 was released it broke the compatibility with several accessories, even factory auto stereos that were designed to work with the Touch and iPhone (my Honda included). While there may be a workaround or software update from Alpine (don't hold your breath) you may have to attempt going back to 3.x via the DFU mode/ Shift-Restore process, if that is even available anymore.

Dammit! What about Bluetooth? Will the Bluetooth accessory allow me to play music through my car stereo?

That you'll probably have to try yourself. Did it before? There's nothing in the iOS 4 release about any changes to Bluetooth audio support, so if it didn't work before it likely won't work now. Even if it did work before, it may not work now. Fun huh?

I did not have Bluetooth hooked up before. This head unit requires another accessory to enable Bluetooth, which I didn't buy because I didn't think I needed it. Silly me, I expected that a deck specifically designed to work with the iPhone would continue to work with the iPhone.

Ah, I may have found the solution for you ... in the new iLounge article "Instant Expert: Secrets & Features of iOS 4" it says that there is a new "iPod Out" feature:

That sounds promising. Where do I turn this feature on? (and why on earth would this feature not be on by default???)

I am having (resolvable) issues with a Pioneer head unit that previously worked fine with my iPhone (AVH-P3100DVD).
Since the iOS4 update, the head unit, which previously controlled all iPod functions, will actually disconnect the iPhone between songs. It will play a song, start playing the first second of the next song, then stop playing, disconnect the phone from power, reconnect the phone to power, recognize the phone, and continue playing the same song it interrupted. The song will have continued to play on the phone, so when the head unit resumes play it will be 5-6 seconds into the song. I've done some testing and found that, so far, manually killing all apps running in the multitasking tray will allow the iPod to play continuously. Reboot did not seem to have an effect. Very annoying, but at least there's a way to get it to run properly. |
