Talking install on a '98 escort

Here's mine, came out kinda rough, but it is functional and unobtrusive. The only downside is that now I'm short a cupholder.

Just a quick description of my setup. Awful, fuzzy pics included:

1) RCA adapter (from rcainput.com) in trunk
2) monster mp3 cable from rca adapter up through lighter/ashtray area in console
3) the cable plugs into the back of an Apple iPod dock
4) plugged a 2 port outlet adapter into the lighter
5) plugged the belkin iPod adapter into one port and then plugged the dock connector into the back of the dock
6) modified the other lighter outlet to fit back into the factory outlet spot
7) cut down the sides of the dock to fit snuggly in the space where the ashtray was
8) put everything back together

Basically, after all this was done, what I have is a setup where everything is hidden by sliding the ashtray cover closed. All I have to do is plug my iPod into the dock which both connects it to the audio system and charges it via the Belkin adapter. I really wanted to have as clean an install as possible and I've found this to work perfectly.

rrrad,

Did you use a car phone mount to mount your iPod. If not, what is it?

It is an Arkon mount. It works fine, but is barely wide enough to fit the iPod with the Speck skin on it. I have successfully torn the foam on either side - however you can't see it when the iPod is mounted. It holds it plenty tight, too!

I think Arkon calls it a "ratcheting" mount, because you can twist it into almost any position.

Thanks,

Reed

Thanks guys. Sometimes the buttons are a little small (depending on which gloves I am wearing), but I can reach the remote without taking my eyes off the road.

$10 mini mount

Well ... $10 for the cell phone mount plus the cost of the Belkin.
I am trying to modify the belkin to release it's clips so I can slide the mini in and out without attaching the cable. full thread

ok this is my first post here, but I'm very envious of all of the people with their iPods installed in their cars. I have a factory installed CD player in my car and I am dying to get my iPod hooked up to my player. I purchased the iTrip, but the sound just isn't good enough for me. Can anyone help me figure out what I need to get/do for this to work?? Thanx ahead of time...
