I just wanted to confirm before I go out and buy a cable that I need the Apple A/V cable with the special apple converter on one and end the audio/video three plugs on the other. Because I have a Griffin 9623 plug which has a 3 ring stereo jack on one end and the audio/video three on the other.
The cable I currently have is http://www.macmall.com/macmall/shop/...%20Accessories if anyone is wondering. Thanks ahead of time, I know a new questions but all of the help will be much appreciated. |

Yes you need the new A/V cable to output Video with the classic's, you can get 2 types one with composite (Yellow video RCA connection) and the Component connect (red/green/blue connections)
They are about £35 from apple I need to get one, but i can't decide which one to get because you should get a better picture through the component, but if i take my ipod on holiday or to hotels etc, i doubt very much the TV's would have component inputs on them, so I probably will go for the composite. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...rt=MB129LL%2FA |

I got the AV cable in your link last week....my goal was to use it with any tv in my house and when we travel on vacation. It works great, but the cables fit very tight and are very thin...I'm thinking I'll break it the next time I pull the cable off one tv. I also bought another version prior to this, just the Belken av cables that plug through the headset jack....did not work...no clue why..

That's correct... Only the fifth-generation iPod ever supported video output through the headphone jack (the fourth-generation iPod colour would display photos on a TV via the headphone jack, but of course the unit itself didn't support video playback).
As of the 2007 iPod models, not only has video output via the headphone jack been discontinued, but video output via the Dock Connector requires an Apple-approved cable such as the one described above. The key point is that not even all Dock Connector video cables will work -- although there are a number of older Dock Connector based video output accessories that were designed for the fifth-generation iPod, most of these do not include the authentication chip now required by the new iPod models in order to enable video output. I agree completely with the earlier observations about the thin wires and tight fit of these cables (I have both the component and composite versions myself), but unfortunately your best bet is to stick with these until third-party manufacturers start releasing cables that are specifically compatible with the iPod classic.

Thanks....thats great info, hopefully third-parties will start soon....at 49 bucks it does have a lot in the package with charging capabilities, but the wires are like threads

I bought both as well, I use the component cables connected to my dock and my home theater receiver, then use the composite for travel, a little expensive but oh well.

What a marketing scheme.
Let's see...The cables must be purchased from Apple, and they are not that durable so they can break if care is not made to avoid this... Peat and repeat I gather.
