OMG! I was just looking at the buyers guide, and headphones are between 200 and 400 dollars? Holy crap! That's worth more than my 5G IPOD! WTF?! What is the most you guys have spent on a pair of headphones for your IPOD, and was it worth it? I mean the headphones that came with my 5G 30 GB are ok, but man spending over 100 bucks better increase the sound quality like woah. Also, are big ear headphones that much of a trouble to exercise with, or are the small headphones better for this situation? I had NO FREAKING IDEA until I read the buyer's guide how much that #### was holy crap. Also, when I go headphone shopping, should I bring my ACTUAL IPOD in to test it out, or should I just use the store IPODs? Anyways, Im blown away by the prices of the headphones, I hope they come with a big ### warranty yo. |

IMO 200-400 is a little steep. I decided to try 60$+ earphones and i'd suggest you do that too. You have no idea how crappy your stock earbuds sound until you hear nicer headphones. Read reviews and spend between 50 and 100 bucks to find the ones right for you.

For exercise big cans are not good, nor are In Ear Monitors (IEM), which are the headphones that go into your ear.
But for listening the big cans are hard to beat. Sennheiser 555 are very good teamed with an iPod and dont need amplification, like some of the higher end ones will. I prefer IEMs and think the Shure E2 are well worth the money, and am thinking of upgrading to the E4. The old rule for stereos was to spend as much on your speakers as the rest of the gear. This may be a bit high for DAPS but it still isnt too far off. h

Call me cheap but I'm not that picky when it comes to sound quality and I'm not in the profession that requires top quality sound. $50 is steep to me but after getting Senn. PX200s I'm way more happy than I ever expected. If it's out and about I got Senn. MX400s for $6.

Man, can't believe all u poor$ people
Never heard of the usd$72,000 (yes, thousands) Chord monoblock amplifier uh? (it doesn't even do stereo!) Why are u not happy with the stock phones? Once u have answered that, then u can go into the earsphones forum (yes there is a WHOLE forum dedicated to earsphones) and spend some quality time there and find out why u should spend more. Maybe u don't have to!

Ask Jacko. He knows quite a few good sub $100 head/ear phones.

I have sony MDR-50s and they are pretty reasonable. They stay in your ears even if exercising etc. and are very comfortable for in-ears. They sound better than the stock but have a little too much low and not enough highs. I think there are similar priced better sounding headphones out there but I am pretty happy.

The v-moda remix:m and v-moda bass freq are two good $50 earbuds... and since you're not looking for some super duper high quality sound, they should be just about what you are looking for. (They sound great, but their not on the same playing field as the $200-$400 buds.)

Pricewise, I think the sweetspot for phones is roughly between $50-$150. You can find a lot of very high quality phones of all styles in that range.

I recommend Sony MDR-EX90 or Panasonic RJP HJE70 for under $100. Senss Cx300 and Bass Freq for around $50.00. All of these are IEM (in-ear monitor).

AVOID the Sony EX51/71 and Koss Plugs. Avoid Phillips 590s and 592s. Avoid Turbosounds. Avoid Shure E2s.
Consider: V-MODA Remix-M or Sony E888 (if you want buds) Sennheiser CX300s or Panasonic HJE70s (if you want in-ears) Audio Technica ATH CK7s (if you don't like too much bass) V-MODA Bass Freqs (if you can't afford CX300s) I haven't tried the Sony EX90, yet, and with that in mind, my recommendation remains the HJE70
