Unhappy installing itunes issues

hi there,
Just bought new black 30Gb...looks great but i am having problems installing iTunes to my new laptop (XP operating system with pre installed Sonic record now cd burner).

First time I tried to upload using the disc I received an error message telling me that registry settings were not working due to the fact that my laptop had already pre-installed cd burning software - please re-install itunes. (i have xp and the cd software is Sonic Record Now - straight from the shop).

I understand this is not an isolated issue therefore removed iTunes and had to re-set my settings as my cd drive had disabled itself (presumably as a protection)....I also removed the Sonic software as this appeared to be the original problem.

however since i have done this and attempt to re-install iTunes I simply get an standard error message "itunes has encountered a problem and has to close" before it has even finished installing. Slightly frustrating you can imagine!!!

I am do not have internet at home yet, so am waiting to see if it will yeild a different result by downloading iTunes from apple.com. Does anybody have any suggestions? - I have found a few other cases of this happening.
thanks for any input,
mike.
