Hmmm.......
What drive do you rip on Shabbs? Brand and model.

I used to get speeds of around 1.5 to 3 until I started manually spinning up my drive with another application prior to extraction with EAC. EAC's spin up drive option doesn't work on some of the LitOn drives like mine. Doing this, I consistently get up to 11 on error free tracks and about 5 - 6 on tracks with errors. This is on a LiteOn LDW-451S flashed to an SOWH-832S DVD/RW drive. Same family of drive with the same controls, laser, parts, etc. The flash upgrade merely gave me dual layer DVD writing capability.

Even though my drive reports that it supports C2 error correction, I leave it off since I'm not 1000% sure of that. I'd much rather be accurate than gain 30 - 60 seconds a disc. If you absolutely know that yours does support it then you might try that for a tinyish boost.

korn's ripping at 40x secure is indeed impressive.
