how to get out of disc mode?

Hi all,
I was very unlucky today and pulled my 3g ipod out of the firewire, and in the same time it fell on the floor.
It had gone in to Disc Mode and does connect with the PC (i run windows XP) I can see all the files and music is there in windows explorer, but the ipod doesn't seem to show in iTunes.
correction: it does show in iTunes, but seems problematic to play the songs. Also shows that there are lots of songs on it...
When it's disconnected and I try to reset it, it resets but the the folder with an exclamation mark appears. On the top of the ipod (over the line) it says "Disk Mode". If I'm not mistaked that means that it's gone into forced discmode and you can only use it as a harddisc. How can one turn it back into a normal ipod? Is it a way to turn off the disk mode?
I don't have the user guide provided with the ipod because i lost it, and have searched a bit on the forums for some help, but not really found anything that solved my problem.
I'm afraid I might have to reformat the ipod and thus lose all my 35 GB of music.
Does anyone have any idea how i can fix this and still keep my music?????
please help..
