iPodlounge is not responsible for the content linked below. Any description text copied below, if applicable, is the property of the original author--- at the link specified.

For many of the plug-ins below, you simply install by placing the *.dll file in the /Plug-Ins/ directory of your iTunes program file. If you do not have a /Plug-Ins/ directory, create one.

By no means is this a comprehensive list. If you would like to submit a new or updated link, simply reply to this post, USING THE FOLLOWING VBCODE TEMPLATE:

Register on Listen-to. Install the appropriate Plug-in.
Listen-to will allow you to publish data about the music you are currently listening to, live, to the web. It offers several formats in which you can do so.

Now Playing
Type: Web
Download Link

iTunes allow you to create plug-ins that can do various tasks for you. The Now Playing plug-in monitors the song you are listening to and publishes the data in various ways.

1. Creates a XML file with information on that song. A file called now_playing.xml is created in your iTunes Plug-ins directory.
2. The plug-in also offers you the ability to FTP/SFTP that file to a server of your choosing after its updated.
3. Create a TrackBack ping with the song information.

The idea is that you publish the XML up to your web server and then through some scripting magic, you can display your currently playing song. The plug-in supports publishing the current song, as well as a variable number of the most recently played songs.

Impressive plug-in, Brandon... Nice Job!

Add image creation to your plug-in, (for forum signatures), and it will become the listen-to of the future. Listen-to.com is on its way out, and a solution that doesn't involve a server/service of any kind will be VERY nice! Thanks again!

Add image creation to your plug-in, (for forum signatures), and it will become the listen-to of the future.
Please elaborate. Do you mean that you want the plug-in to automatically generate an image file (.gif, .png, etc.) that could be uploaded to a server. The image would have a picture of the album cover and the title of the song, etc. inside of it.

Is that what you are after?

Many of our forum members like to put a dynamically-updated image file (yes-- .jpg, .gif) in their signatures which contain what they're listening to at the moment.

Here's an example:
[/img]

or

[/img]

But, Listen-to.com (The service currently offering this for many media players) is going offline soon. Many will be looking for a replacement.

Until they go offline, feel free to join, download the plug-in, and see the various features that their service offers.

Now Playing: An iTunes for Windows Plug-in

Cool. That is easy with PHP. Just a few dozen lines. You can use the GD funtions to create an image.

I don't use this on my site but, for example, I wrote some PHP that retrieves the album cover art from Amazon and then merges it with the album, artist and song title to form one .jpeg image.

This could easily be extended to create a playlist if you wanted.

Here is a sample:

Neato!!

I realize forum signatures aren't the *only* application of this feature, but if you'd like to make a template/sample code for forum members to use, the image file must be 300(W) x 50(H) pixels or less.

Awesome job... you're good! I wish I had the time to learn programming/php... Fun stuff!

Not, at least, from the same author. CowPimp Software lost the only copy of the source code in a Windows crash and is not interested in re-developing it.

I heard about that. Is there any news on a replacement though? Living at college, mytunes comes in handy.
