You can also use iTunes to create free ringtones from your songs that you own.
1. Find a song you want to make a ringtone from.
2. Play sections of the song to find an approximate start time of what you want to hear. Note the start time.
3. Right click the track, choose Get Info, click on the Options tab. Set the Start Time to what you noted.
4. Set the Stop Time to 30 seconds or less later. If you need help calculating the time, there are online time calculators: Time Calculator
5. Click OK to save the changes, play the segment to see if it is what you want to hear.
6. Adjust start and stop times to get exactly what you want. You can use decimals on the seconds to get a tiny bit more or less (ex: 0:25:12.43).
7. Once satisfied, click on the track, then choose File->Convert->Create AAC to make a track of that segment. (You see Create MP3 enabled instead of Create AAC, choose Edit->Preferences, click on Import Settings, set Import Using to AAC Encoder, and Setting to iTunes Plus, click OK, then use the File menu above)
8. Right click the new copy of the file (it will be the one with the shorter duration) and choose Show in Windows Explorer (or Show in Finder) the track should be highlighted. Rename it, changing the extension from m4a to m4r. If you don't see the file extensions see: then try step 8 again.
9. Delete the short version of the song from iTunes. Select it and choose delete.
10. Drag the file with the .m4r extension from Windows Explorer or Finder and drop onto iTunes.
11. Right click on the normal version of the song, choose Get Info, click on Options, uncheck Start, uncheck Stop, click OK.
12. In iTunes, if you navigate to the Tones section you will see your new ringtone.

Have you backed up your iTunes Library this week? If not, you are risking losing your music and playlists....
