Ok, hopefully I am posting to an acceptable location as I tried to look for specifics and cannot find mine so hopefully someone can help or I may have to abandon the iPhone which I really don't want to do.

I have 2 issues which follow the background.

I previously had a Verizon wireless iPhone 4 that worked perfectly. I then got a AT&T iPhone 4S which I had them unlock and now use it on T-Mobile.

Problem 1:
The 4S on T-Mobile does not allow picture/video messaging to/from anyone who does not have an iPhone. Is there a fix for this?

Problem 2:
I have in my car a Pioneer Avic D3 with integrated iPod/iPhone adaptor with a scosche attachment for charging. My iPhone 4 through Verizon charged and played through the speakers and could be controlled through the head unit, but with the 4S it will only charge and says there are no songs on it so for some reason it is not recognizing what is there. Also, all apps like Pandora, Waze, etc doesn't play through the speakers as well. Does anyone know of any security settings or some other issue that I can change to correct this?

Thanks in advance.

1. It sounds like there is a miscommunication between T-Mobile's service and the iPhone. iMessage is capable of sending out text messages to non-iOS users. I do it all the time but I also have text plan through my carrier (Verizon). Make sure you have a text plan and that T-Mobile didn't give you a bad micro SIM card. You can actually take your iPhone into a T-Mobile store (make sure it is a corporate store) and have them get everything up and running for you.

2. What version of iOS was/is your iPhone 4 running and what version is your iPhone 4S running?

The latest version of the IOS lets you send and receive messages from more then one account you can even use your icloud id to send from. What account do you have set to send messages first? If it's not your cell phone then your going to have problems.

iMessage is working properly and text messaging is working, it is only the picture messaging feature that are not through iMessage that does not work. I do have unlimited text feature on my plan. I have had two different SIM cards and both have done the same thing.

Both phones are on iOS 6.0.1.

I have them both set to send from my cell phone first.

Problem 1: Video messages is an open issue. I can't send videos to non-iPhones, I use email as a work around. Pictures failing to send could be that you are sending too large of a picture. Non-iPhones have a smaller limit on the data size they are able to receive. Assuming of course your "text message" plan also covers picture messages. You can try a smaller picture size (mine prompts for what size to send sometimes).

iMessage needs an email address set up to send pictures. You will need to set this up. This is the account that Shameless1 was referring to.

Problem 2: I would check the seating of the connector. It sounds like the connector is not plugged in all the way on the second phone. The connector is the same between these phones so that should not be an issue. If you have a template for the 4 for the plug, you may have to remove it to get the 4s to seat properly. Be careful using the plug without a template, you can ruin the plug and/or the phones.

Thanks for the info.

After researching more on the My T-Mobile app for troubleshooting I can now send picture and video messaging. If anyone needs this info it is in the connectivity issues and changing data network settings.

As for the stereo issue I am not sure what is meant by template. They both connect fine in the same way and I've tried with and without the scosche. Could it be that the cable connector and deck are older than the 4s?

I assumed it was a dock, and lots of docs have a plastic piece that helps you center the iPhone to it plugged in correctly. That plastic piece is a template and there is a different one for each device due to changes in thickness, width, etc.

The pins did not change for the 4s vs the 4. So the connector should not be at fault. You may want to restore the iPhone 4s with iTunes to reset the OS and see if that helps the communication.

Thanks for all the help. After trying a reset it still doesn't work so I am going to see if the car stereo place that installed it can figure it out before I spend too much more time on this.

Again, thanks so much. :)

Have you tried looking for a firmware update for your car's deck? I have a Kenwood deck in my Ford Escort (fancy!) and a Pioneer touchscreen deck in my Honda Civic. Both have the ability to update their firmware over a USB flash drive. I simply download a file from their websites, put it in a specific folder on the thumb drive, and go through the update process. I don't drive my Escort anymore but I had to update its firmware when the first iPod touch came out so that it would work with them via a USB connection. My Pioneer deck has built-in bluetooth which I use all the time. However, it offers a front USB connection as well. It works fine with my iPod classic but not my iPad 3 or iPhone 5 as they are running iOS 6 (and it's not compatible with the iPhone 5 hardware). Pioneer came out with an update allowing those devices to work. I haven't upgraded my firmware yet as I use bluetooth but the option is there.

Thanks for all the replies, it all got worked out. It turns out the car stereo thing was an operator error.. oops. I just didn't have the music I thought I did but when I added it everything works again. :)
