First steps in solving issues on an iPod is Resetting and Restoring. Reset the toch by holding the Home and Sleep buttons till you see the Apple icon.
Restore is done with iTunes which re-installed the iPods software. Restore will erase all apps and media files but will re-sync back as long as they are in the iTunes Library.
