Ipod 3rd gen NANO stuck in disk/restore mode

it's like a cycle. keeps saying connect to itunes to restore. itunes restores it and it goes back to the same screen. i did the "center" button and "menu" reset tons of times and i formatted it using the windows formatting tool, to fat32 with quick format AND regular format and still no luck! it keeps going to the white disk mode screen when i plug it in..
note: someone put water on the ipod but i took it apart and dried it and let it sit for days and it's been doing this ever since. think the water fried it?
