Ipod Touch First Gen Can't Sync Apps?

Hey guys so I finally decided to put some games on my Ipod and I downloaded a bunch of free ones to see what the Ipod has to offer and well when I click Sync it syncs everything except my apps? I't might be obvious what im doing wrong but I just cant figure it out, any help would be amazing!
Oh also I put $45.00 on my ipod with Gift cards and it still says I need a payment plan? What's the deal with that?
