Well, I purchased and received the 2G early yesterday. By the time I decided to buy it, all the !gs were out and were on backorder with a much higher price.
I found one site I have ordered from in the past and always had good service that had the 2G on sale sale so I ordered it. I ordered a 16Gb hoping I would have enough room, my Cowon D2 has 4Gb on board but I am able to place a 16Gb SDHC card in it to bring it to 20Gb; but since a lot sits vacant I thought I would finally give Apple a try. I was most worried about non-expandability, but in reality I don't think I will have an issue with this.
I installed iTunes which worked out, it would be nice if Apple (like Cowon, Meizu, SanDisk) could be seen as a removable disk where you do not need third party software, all you need to do is drop and drag, but iTunes synched all my files without and issue. My wma files I reripped to mp3, so this wasn't an issue. It said I needed the 2.2 update, and since the improvements seemed worth it, I flashed the player, and this worked flawlessly.
The only issue I had was my songs that didn't have the album art in the tag couldn't be recognized by iTunes nor was I able to load a .jpeg files of the cover to the tag.
I used Mediamonkey to add the art to the tag, and placed this on the Touch, which worked well. I have to re-read the notes on iTunes, Mediamonkey is a great app for any DAP, but I would rather use one app rather than two, so I have to see why I couldn't add album art with iTunes.
I then tried Wifi which worked on my secure network great. I tried installing a free app, this worked fine. Now, it was the SQ test as I hadn't heard an iPod since gen 1 and 2 when the SQ was horrible. I played my tracks (I have only had it barely 2 days, so not in depth), but it sounds fine, in fact it has improved 10 fold since the earlier generations. I do not like the fact that Mr.Jobs atill hasn't instituted a custom EQ yet, but after tweaking some of the installed EQ settings the sound was very good to me. I am not usingthe earphones it came with. Every player I have owned, I never use the stock earphones, and this makes a world of difference. I am currently using Senn. CX-300 IEMs. I used these with my D2 t00.
So far so good with my new 2G Touch. I purchased a silicon case and screen protector from this place also. I always but silcon cases for my DAPs, just in case.
When I got the box via UPS, and opened it, the Touch was there in this sealed small plastic case. I weas expecting big box, I actually liked the small packaging.
Another plus for the Touch is that it is pocketable, all the other wifi DAPs (Archos, for example) are huge. I bought the Archos 605 that is expandable BTW (the flash version) before I bought the Touch, but like the reviews I had read (which I should've listened to) the player threw an OS error within 20 minutes. I kept resstarting after playing certain tracks. All this within 20 in. I returned it and ended up using the money for the Touch.
So far so good, I was always critical of Mr. Jobs (still am

), but I am highly impresse with his product.
