I like to stick with 640x480 for the same reasons as kornchild2002, and most of my video is archived for played back with an Apple TV on a 40"LCD TV. I'll also use 1500Kbps for new material for the near DVD quality. I'll drop down to 1000Kbps for older TV shows from the 60's, 70's and 80's since they usually only have a VHS tape quality to begin with.
