Problem accessing CDDB with iTunes

I have a load of wav files (circa 8000) I need to rename using CDDB but I keep getting "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes". I'm pretty sure I did import them with iTunes (it was a while ago) and whilst I can re-import them from CD, re-ripping 100 or so CDs (as WAVs) would be a real PITA.
Any suggestions for a work round?
(Preferably on Mac, but PC at a push.)
