The answer was, "Yes you can. It's just like iCal. You enter events by going to the 'File' menu and hitting 'new event'. You enter the info and it's automatically saved as a new event."
Apparently what they did was remove the "ADD" button on the screen front, which just makes it more inconvenient, but not impossible. There is no "add" button in iCal either.
